Battles in Pokemon Platinum are great and unchanged. It keeps the same intense strategy and strengthens it with the great addition of Battle Frontier. This may be my guess, but I have found that you are "patrolling" faster in this game. The game still has the basic gameplay which makes it great. Not much has changed here, but maybe that's for the better.

This game has a lot of replay value! There go to Wifi Plaza, chat with friends, people watch instead of recording. Battle Frontier increases the replayability of a full stack. You can also try to complete (see 271 so far) the entire pokedex (all pokemon list) or level most pokemon to 100. You can also train your own Pokémon (a special type of Pokémon training) or search for Shiny. You can play against friends, participate in matches or fight via WiFi. It would be impossible to list everything you can do in this game. If you're looking for a game with a good replay value, buy it!
